Green Innovation Weekend Ahead
By Danny Epstein – Special to SUNonline/Orillia
Sustainable Orillia is counting down the days to the 8th annual Green Innovation Weekend taking place at Centennial Park July 25 and 26. Presented in association with the Orillia and District Chamber of Commerce and made possible through the generous support of sponsors Plaza Auto Group, Raymond James, Super E-Bikes, Fram & Slokker, Green Storage, CIBC, and CIBC Wood Gundy, the event will feature more exhibitors, more demonstrations, and more opportunities for families to explore sustainable living than ever before.
As the largest event of its kind in the Simcoe-Muskoka region, the Green Innovation Weekend has become a premier destination for residents interested in environmental sustainability, clean technology, energy conservation, and greener lifestyles.
Visitors will have the chance to meet and engage with a diverse range of businesses, community organizations, innovators, and environmental advocates who share a commitment to building a more sustainable future. Through interactive displays, live demonstrations and one-on-one conversations, attendees can discover practical ideas and solutions that can be applied in their everyday lives.
This year, Sustainable Orillia has devoted two dedicated booths entirely to learning and hands-on experiences — and the lineup is remarkable. Highlights include:
- Clothing mending – bring torn or worn items and have them repaired on the spot
- Plant-based cooking demonstration
- Sustainable dentistry – a conversation you didn’t know you needed
- Connection circles and climate change discussions
- Tree planting and maintenance
- Build your own worm farm – a crowd favourite for curious minds of all ages
Families and young visitors will also find plenty to enjoy. Children’s programming includes environmental storytelling, beginner sewing activities, and an opportunity to get close to some of Ontario’s native animals. A complete schedule of Learning Booth activities and presentation times is available on the Sustainable Orillia website.

Admission to the Green Innovation Weekend is free. In addition to the broad array of vendors, educational exhibits and demonstrations, Sustainable Orillia is hosting a silent auction featuring 6 items donated by local businesses. In addition, there will also be a raffle of 10 prizes. To participate in the raffle, visitors must complete an event passport and make a donation. Proceeds from both the silent auction and raffle will help support Sustainable Orillia’s environmental and community initiatives throughout the year.
Sustainable Orillia is a volunteer-driven,community-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability through education, advocacy, and community engagement. With events such as the Green Innovation Weekend, Sustainable Orillia encourages government, business, and residents to adopt practices that contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future.
