Lghtfoot Estate Items Donated To The City Of Orillia

A U-Haul trailer full of items from Gordon Lightfoot’s estate has been donated to the City of Orillia. As of Thursday, September 24 the items are in its possession.
Mayor Don McIsaac said they don’t even know exactly what they have, but did say the original first recording Gord made, made on red vinyl by his school principal, Mr. Dobson on the day before Gord’s 10th birthday is one of the items.
“The lawyers finally got around to releasing what was left and there’s just a trove of stuff,” McIsaac said.
Off the top of his head he also said there are several of Gord’s stage costumes, some furniture, The Key to the City awarded to Gord in 1970, and his Order of Canada and Order of Ontario medallions. As well, there are about 250 albums from Gord’s record collection.
There are also some items from Gord’s childhood included.
“It’s like getting into the tomb of Tutankhamen,” McIsaac said.
The mayor said it will be some time before the items can be shown to the public because staff at the Orillia Museum of Art and History want to catalogue each item first.
The mayor said council will be asked on Monday to provide some money to properly deal with the donation.
“We hope to have displays at the rec center, at City Hall, the Opera House, all sorts of stuff to display around Orillia,” McIsaac said.
