Chamber Hosts Discussion About Tariffs

Press Release

The Orillia and District Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Orillia’s Business Development Division, will host a Tariff Roundtable on January 22. The event will bring together business leaders and elected officials to discuss the current and emerging impacts of tariffs on Orillia and Area’s economy.

The roundtable will feature MP Adam Chamber and MPP Jill Dunlop, who are seeking direct input from businesses who are being affected by tariffs. The discussion will focus on understanding the effects experienced to date, identifying current pressures, and preparing for potential challenges ahead as Canada and the United States trade relations continue to evolve.

While there is optimism that future negotiations may provide greater certainty for cross-border trade, the Chamber believes it is critical to document how tariffs are currently affecting local businesses and supply chains across multiple sectors.

“Businesses are telling us that tariffs are creating uncertainty, increased costs, and operational challenges,” explains ODCC executive director Allan Lafontaine. “This roundtable ensures those concerns are heard directly by decision-makers while also helping businesses better understand what lies ahead.”

To support informed discussion, the event is sponsored by Peacock Tariff Consulting. The owner of Peacock Tariff Consulting, Kyle Peacock, will participate in the roundtable as an expert and will also provide attendees with some insights into tariff structures and compliance considerations.

The Tariff Roundtable is open to any Orillia, Severn, Ramara, Oro-Medonte, and Chippewas of Rama First Nation businesses who are being affected by tariffs.

This collaborative event reflects the shared commitment of the Chamber and the City of Orillia Economic Development to advocate for business interests, strengthen economic resilience, and ensure local voices are represented in broader policy discussions.

Businesses interested in attending or learning more about the Tariff Roundtable are encouraged to request an invitation by emailing advocacy@orillia.com.
