Sustainable Orillia Art Project

Art sometimes has the ability to reach people with a message in ways words, graphs and charts can’t. Art in some cases moves people to act. To that end, Sustainable Orillia would like Orillia artists to create art designed to get people thinking about what they can do to mitigate climate change.

It has become obvious in modern society some people react better to emotional stimulus than facts and Sustainable Orillia wants to try this approach, but not with intent to manufacture a different reality.

“Words, data charts, science and educational information have clearly not been enough to change attitudes and behaviours, to move people to action in the diminishing time which remains to heal our ailing planet.”

They plan to have several opportunities with different sustainability themes throughout the year for artists to contribute to this motivational effort. This first call for submissions comes with the theme Renewal.

A submission will be chosen and published in local media, including SUNonline/Orillia, and the artist will receive a $75 honorarium. Submissions should include artist contact details and a statement about how their piece reflects their perspective on Renewal.

Submissions (photos, audio links) should be emailed here before April 30.
