New Gallery

The City of Orillia is opening a new gallery, of sorts. Space is available in the new Orillia Recreation Centre for an art display and the inaugural exhibit is being called, From Foundry to Future. The idea is to show the transition of the West Street former industrial property into a place to get fit.

The site used to be the heart of employment where farm equipment and industrial machinery, household appliances and toys were made. Artists can submit work interpreting the change, whether it’s new work or old.

The gallery is in the lobby and has 10 foot high ceilings, so sculptures will be considered. More than one artists can collaborate on a piece. For two dimensional work, large pieces are wanted with a minimum 24 inch height and width necessary.

Selection preference is given to Orillia and area artists. For more information about how to submit visit the city’s website. You can also call 705-325-4530 or email jsoczka@orillia.ca for information. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 16.
