Orillia’s 2018 Athlete of the Year

Annie Lloyd is Orillia’s Athlete of the Year. The announcement was made at Monday night’s council meeting. The 19-year-old lacrosse player was a member for three championship teams in 2018. The Orillia Lady Kings won the provincial championships. She was co-captain of the Ontario team which won all its tournament games in Halifax to take the National Championship. At Queen’s University Annie helped win the school’s first Ontario University Athletics championship in 20 years, and she was named Offensive Player of the Year.

Also nominated were three others who each played at championship levels in their sports. In cricket, Hemant Patel scored 1,157 runs to help the Orillia team win several tournaments; Bob Wink won gold medals in rowing and was in the top ten in world water skiing competition ; Teddy McCollum-Kuntz was on championship teams in baseball and hockey.
