Mark Adams Calls It A Day

Press Release

After 31 years with the store, Mark Adams, the longtime door greeter at Orillia Home Hardware Building Centre, will be retiring. Mark, who has Down syndrome, has been welcoming customers since 1996 and is well known in the community for his warm personality and friendly greetings.

For more than three decades, he has welcomed customers at the front door, helped people find items throughout the store, and built genuine relationships with staff and shoppers alike. Known for his incredible memory, Mark can often direct customers to exactly what they need—and greet them by name when they walk in. He’s also known for his great sense of humour and playful pranks, especially on the cashiers, and for loudly greeting store Dealer-owner Christopher (Locke) with his signature call of “Chrrrrrrrrrrrrrristopherrrrrrrrrrrrr!” that echoes through the aisles.

The store is hosting a retirement celebration on Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a cake cutting and speeches at 11 a.m. Community members, local officials, and organizations are expected to attend to celebrate Mark’s career and wish him well.

When Mark celebrated his 25th anniversary with the store, thousands of people from the community stopped by, and the team is expecting another strong turnout.
