Transportation Master Plan Open House
By John Swartz
The City of Orillia is updating the transportation master plan and is holding an open house December 3 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Orillia Recreation Centre.
The plan was first created in 2019. It involves road and sidewalk networks, public transportation and trails. This session is focusing on roads and sidewalks.
People know their neighbourhoods better than consultants and this is an opportunity to make known what works and what doesn’t, what gets too much attention and what no one seems to care about.
Children are welcome and there will be activities for them to do while making your case.
Official Plan Open House
And, the City is holding an open house for the public to review and provide input to the draft Official Plan update. It happens December 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the waterfront centre (the Port of Orillia building).
The Official Plan is the document that directs what kinds of development can occur in defined areas of the city. It is the big picture guide to the zoning by-law which defines property by property the specifics of what can be built.
In broad terms, the plan outlines where things like parks should be, and tends to separate industrial/commercial activity from residential areas. It also takes into account growth, transportation and infrastructure needs.
The draft is online to review before the open house.
