Electric Vehicle Show Next Weekend

By Fred Larsen – Special to SUNonline/Orillia

A roller rink and an electric vehicle have more in common than you may think. Active means of transportation like roller skating and electric vehicles are also emission-free ways of getting around. It may be a bit of a stretch, but a roller skating rink could well be the ideal venue for this year’s All-Electric Vehicle Weekend, and we at Sustainable Orillia are always happy to highlight emission-free alternatives.

On the August 5 /6 weekend join us at the Roller Skating Place at ODAS Park for the 5th Annual All-Electric Vehicle Weekend hosted by Sustainable Orillia. It’s a no pressure, family-friendly environment where you can learn more about the full range of electric vehicles available in our region. From cars to boats to bikes and even snow blowers and lawn mowers, for all things electric on display experts will be on hand to walk you through the benefits of electrifying your ride.

The transition to electrification of vehicles and machines is moving rapidly from the margin to mainstream for good reason. There’s an awakening across all categories that emission-free vehicles are the way of the future. More and more consumers are planning and making the switch as more options, greater affordability and accessible infrastructure comes onto the market. This appears to be the right time to explore, consider and plan for your own step into an emissions-free ride.

The free event promises to be bigger and more comprehensive this year thanks in large part to our sponsors: Orillia KiaSuper E-Bikes, Raymond James, Green Storage and the CIBC.

Plug’n Drive will be back on site, offering people a chance to test drive an electric vehicle. With a wide range of car dealers on hand, there will be plenty of options to consider. Dealers on site include Orillia Kia, Subaru of Orillia, Orillia Volkswagen, Thor Motors (Ford), HWY 11 Chrysler, Tesla, VinFast Auto Canada and Orillia Mazda.

Electric Surf Board

If you are interested in marine vehicles, MPS MPW Enterprises and Create Your Wave will be there. If you need  a bicycle, an e-bike or scooter, Super E-Bikes, Orillia Power Sports and Orillia Motor Sports will be important booths to visit. For those wanting to sustainably maintain their lawns, Kubota North will be presenting its line of electric lawn appliances and more. There is something for everyone.

This displays and demonstrations are designed to raise awareness of zero and low emission transportation. The event directly supports Big Move #2 – Transportation of the City of Orillia’s climate action plan, Orillia’s Climate Future.

The event expands this year to include Orser Technical Services, a vendor with expertise in related areas like solar panels and power walls. Other additions, Electrical Elite Inc. representatives will be there to provide advice about the logistics of charging your new EV at home, Undor is looking forward to sharing information on their creative cable routing solutions for charging cables and Napoleon will be on hand to showcase and answer questions about their heat pump line.

The All-Electric Vehicle Weekend is a comprehensive, diverse, and not-to-be-missed opportunity to explore electrifying options and enter a silent auction for a number of items (bids close at 3 p.m., Sunday, August 6).
