Canada Day 2022

By John Swartz

Friday’s Canada Day at Couchiching Beach Park turned out all right despite an early morning rain, and threatening skies late afternoon which got event organizers anxious about the fate of the evening’s fireworks.

The parade at noon went off without a hitch as well. There were several thousand people on hand throughout the day, but it did not seem to be as packed with people as in past years.

Nevertheless, people enjoyed the cake, the beer, ice cream, burgers, cotton candy and midway rides and music by the bands in the Aqua Theatre in the run up to the fireworks.

Committee chair Ken McLaughlin is making this his last year with the organizing committee. Several other long time volunteers are also retiring. His message to Orillians is if you are looking for something to do, now is the time to contact the committee at info@orilliacanadaday .ca to become part of the volunteer team.
