By John Swartz
The Ontario Provincial Police have hundreds of retirements happening during the next few years and is actively recruiting for uniform and civilian positions.
They are having a job fair at the Mariposa Inn May 24 from 2 to 7 p.m. There is also an Ask a Recruiter Anything hour from 2 to 3 p.m. the same day happening on their Facebook page. The purpose, “is to provide participants the opportunity to gain knowledge, insight, and advice relating to the OPP’s Constable hiring process.”
While people can go to the job fair on the 24th, there is also an information session happening at OPP General Headquarters May 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. specifically designed for those interested in uniform careers.
“The session includes an overview of how to apply, prerequisites, expectations of an applicant and an overview of how to prepare for each stage of the process. This presentation will benefit those candidates who want to learn more about the OPPs recruitment process, to ensure they are at their competitive best before they apply.”
You must register by 2 p.m. May 24 to attend and photo ID is needed.
There are a variety of civilian positions the OPP are recruiting for including communications, administration, forensics, garage operations, transcription, evidence management, information technology, public relations and more.
Special Constables have limited police powers and Auxiliary police ( a volunteer position) are also being sought.
Qualifications for all positions can be found on the OPP careers webpage.
