County Cultural Ambassadors Program

The County of Simcoe is preparing for its third annual campaign to reduce racism and discrimination in March. Originally called Stand Up, it now has the name #ITSTARTS.

To carry out the awareness program they need volunteer Cultural Ambassadors. There is a registration for those interested, and a training program with a session at the Orillia Public Library Feb. 19 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Training will help participants “provide education and tools to support participants in leading diversity awareness in their workplace and communities.”

It’s estimated there are 61,000 recent immigrants living in Simcoe County. Community partners for #ITSTARTS are Georgian College, Lakehead University, the OPP, Simcoe County District School Board and the  YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka under the Simcoe County Local Immigration Partnership banner.
