Sustainable Orillia is pleased to present The Climate Hope, an exhibition of its 2026 Student Art Contest winners, at the Orillia Museum of Art and History November 14, to January 9.

In 2022, the inaugural Sustainable Orillia Student Art Contest was spearheaded by then SO board member Fred Larsen, with the aim of engaging local students in environmental sustainability topics in a creative way.

This 5th year of the contest invited students to create artwork inspired by the theme Celebrating Success Stories, specifically illustrating how science and technology have contributed to a more sustainable environment.

Now, Orillia residents can appreciate the creative expressions of hope in person at OMAH.

In addition to showcasing their creativity, the annual contest aims to deepen student’s understanding of scientific advancements in environmental action, while also fostering climate hope.

The 2026 contest ran from March 1 to May 31 and was open to all Orillia area elementary and secondary school students. Submissions were judged by community partners, with up to $1,000 in prizes available. Awards included $200 for the top secondary entry (the Fred Larsen Award for Integrating Science and Art), $100 for second place (high school), and $50 for third place (high school and elementary winners).

Sustainable Orillia congratulates all of this year’s participants and thanks the teachers, families and community partners who supported them. The public is warmly invited to help celebrate the winners by visiting OMAH to see their remarkable artwork in person. Each piece offers an inspiring, hopeful look at how science, technology and creativity are helping build a cleaner, healthier future for all of us.
