Sustainable Orillia’s Tree Planting Project

By Matt Thomson – Special to SUNonline/Orillia

Sustainable Orillia is seeking tree enthusiasts on Saturday, September 20 to plant new native species trees in Tudhope Park and on their own properties. Volunteers are also welcome on Saturday, September 13 to join a team at Tudhope Park removing invasive Buckthorn trees to make space for the tree planting event on the 20th.

These native trees are well-suited for local conditions and will help create a more sustainable natural environment for visitors to Tudhope Park to enjoy.

Sign up online for the Buckthorn pull and/or tree planting project. Once registered, volunteers will be contacted with details (i.e. timing, clothing, what to bring, etc). Tools and lunch will be provided.

Also on September 20, Sustainable Orillia is distributing trees at no charge to Orillia area residents (one per person)to plant on their own properties. • Eastern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis)
  • White Pine (Pinus strobus)
