Green Haven, More Than A Quarter Million Funding Working In The Community

On November 17, Green Haven Shelter for Women (GHSW) invited MPP Jill Dunlop to meet with them to hear how two grants, totalling $315,800, from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) have made a difference. Made up of two Resilient Communities Fund grants awarded by OTF in 2022 and 2023 have empowered the organization to expand and enhance services for survivors and victims of gender-based violence, and have also fostered a sense of resilience within the community.
Green Haven received a one-year, $135,000 grant in 2022. These funds were allocated to several critical initiatives, including service expansion, updating security, and technological infrastructure. These initiatives have significantly improved GHSW’s ability to provide a safe and supportive environment for those in need, ensuring that the charity continues to be a sanctuary for women and children seeking refuge from gender-based abuse and violence.
Green Haven received a new, two-year $180,800 grant in 2023. With this funding, GHSW has established a new role within the organization focused on assessing barriers to service and determining the needs for service expansion. The grant also supports the development of innovative programs tailored to the specific needs of the women and children they serve.
The event was held at Studio 11, one of the shops actively supporting GHSW in November, which was Women Abuse Prevention Month. Studio 11 sold symbolic Wrapped in Courage purple scarves to raise awareness and funds for the organization. Those carves have become a symbol of solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence and a way to support the vital work being done by violence against women shelters across Ontario.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s generous grants have provided GHSW with invaluable resources to continue their mission of empowering and supporting self-identifying women in need of safety. These grants represent a significant boost for the organization, and a strong vote of confidence in their commitment to creating safe spaces and advocating for the community.
