Video: 2025 Remembrance Day

By John Swartz

Several hundred people observed Remembrance Day at the cenotaph at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. It was cooler than last year, but still a pleasant November 11th.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 Pipes and Drums marched veterans, members of several services, and air cadets of the Lynx 99 Squadron into the ceremony.

Fred Addis recited a poem, Wreaths for the Merchant Navy, he authored honouring veterans of the merchant marine.

Padre Terry Bennett in his address, observed that Canada did not ask for reparations in the Treaty of Versailles and never asked for anything in return for participation in any subsequent military action since World War One, we just did our part.

Attendees were asked if the importance of remembering the sacrifices of our parents and grandparents has changed in light of the rise of right-wing extremism around the world. Their answers are in the video of the day’s ceremony.
