Updating The Official Plan
By John Swartz
The City of Orillia is updating the Official Plan and has an open house to gather public input December 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Orillia Waterfront Centre (Port of Orillia).
The Official Plan is the document that directs what kinds of development can occur in defined areas of the city. It is the big picture guide to the zoning by-law which defines property by property the specifics of what can be built.
In broad terms, the plan outlines where things like parks should be, and tends to separate industrial/commercial activity from residential areas. It also takes into account growth, transportation and infrastructure needs.
You will have an opportunity to ask questions of the project team. Any input will become part of the Official Plan final draft.
For those who cannot attend, or wish to make their thoughts more formally, written submissions can be made to senior planner Jill Lewis at jlewis@orillia.ca by January 16, 2026.
You can view the draft plan online.
