Terry Fox Week in the City of Orillia ramps up next week and rolls toward run day on Sunday, September 14t with an online auction, a flag raising and the appearance of reminder lawn signs.
Monday’s flag raising and official proclamation at the Orillia Recreation Centre amplifies a week of public and online activities driving toward next weekend’s community run at J.B. Tudhope Park. Tuesday morning is the annual Breakfast for Champions, generously provided by Bayside Restaurant for registered members of Terry’s Team – people who have received a cancer diagnosis. An online auction of goods, gift cards and services donated by local businesses and individuals begins Monday, September 8, through the Terry Fox Run Orillia Facebook page, clicking on “Events”, concluding next Saturday. Winners will be notified and can pick up their items at the Run site on Sunday the 14th.
The 2024 Orillia Terry Fox Run generated $91,660.20 for cancer research with the help of 375 run day participants, volunteers and teams — along with memorial tributes — lifted the cumulative total to more than $1.05-million by the time the Terry Fox Foundation’s books closed.
Starting and finishing on a 2.5 km loop at the Celebration Plaza in Tudhope Park, the goal for the 2025 Orillia Terry Fox Run remains one dollar per Orillia resident, which has been surpassed for 16 consecutive years. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies and warm-up start at 12:40 p.m. and the Run starts at 1 p.m.
