Remembrance Day

By John Swartz

Remembrance Day in Orillia was observed with the expectation of full public attendance and a parade for the first time since 2019.

There were observances held at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital during the intervening years, but the public was discouraged from attending and the parades were cancelled.

The number of veterans attending was lees than half of those who attended the last traditional observance.

One break with tradition is a number of wreaths were laid prior to the ceremonies, which cut down the amount of time it took for representatives from each group taking their turn. It was also one of the warmest Remembrance Days in memory.

Here is video of the ceremony.
