Orillia Rec Centre Official Opening Friday

By John Swartz

The Orillia Recreation Centre, which has been in use since the fall of 2020, has a grand opening happening Friday, August 19 at 4 p.m.  The ribbon cutting will be at 4:15.

It’s not just an opportunity for photos and celebration. Use of the facility is free during the event until 8 p.m. Normally there is a series of day passes or longer term fees and registration (for space) for most uses and programs. Kids 7 and up should bring their swimwear to try out the Wibit obstacle course in the pool. There are other activities planned geared toward families.

In keeping with a celebration party, the Orillia Youth Centre is sending over some of their musically inclined users to entertain and Leadbetter Foods is supplying refreshments and munchies.

If you do anything but drive to the rec centre for the opening (bus, walk, run) you get an entry to a draw for a one year family pass membership. Kids, make sure you remind dad a few times to register for the draw.

Enjoy this video tour made just prior to opening for use in 2020.
