Downtown Fire

The Orillia Fire Department was called just before 8 p.m. Monday evening to a fire at the St. James Court apartment building on Peter Street North downtown. Fire Chief Brent Thomas said the fire was contained to one unit with minor damage. No one was injured and evacuated residents were being allowed to return to their apartments at 9:15 p..m. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Orillia Fire Department and the OPP.
UPDATE from Orillia OPP –
Mercedes PERREAULT, age 26, of Orillia was arrested and charged with Arson (Disregard for Human Life) Contrary to Section 433(a) of the Criminal Code.
The accused has been remanded into custody and set to appear next at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie for a bail hearing.
