Chamber of Commerce Announces Light Up Orillia & Lake Country Winners

The Orillia District Chamber of Commerce’s Light up Orillia & Lake Country contest and tour wrapped up this weekend and votes have now been tabulated. This year’s event saw 63 official entries from all around Orillia, Oro-Medonte, Severn, Rama and Ramara. Almost 2,000 votes were cast and many more residents also got involved by “liking” their favorites on social media. The first prize for residential entries is $1,000 to spend locally.

This is the second year that the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce has run Light Up Orillia and Lake Country as an alternative to its traditional Santa Claus Parade.  This year’s event also included the installation of four painted post cards by local artist Paul Baxter and the installation of light displays at various locations. Additionally, this year’s event incorporated a “Santa tour”, featuring Santa Claus riding a float throughout Orillia and area neighbourhoods.

 This year’s residential winners were:

  • First Place: 12 Ashton Street (top of page photo)
  • Second Place: 6915 Rama Road
  • Third Place: 77 Ward Avenue

For businesses, the winners were:

  • First Place: City Cuts
  • Second Place: Ron Johnston Insurance
  • Third Place: Sanderson Monument

The bonus prize for the most social media likes went to 329 Crawford Street.

This year’s Light Up Orillia and Lake County event was made possible through support from presenting sponsor Hydro One and Chamber holiday event sponsors Pizza Nova, Orillia Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, Kahuna Surf Shop, Sunshine Superwash, Sunshine Carpet and Flooring, Ron Johnston Insurance and Scottish Highlands Golf course.
